Raul Fernandez vs Gardner plays out on Saturday morning

The Red Bull KTM Ajo boys are strutting their stuff in Texas, with third place Di Giannantonio 0.4s shy; USA's Beaubier into Q2

It’s the Red Bull KTM Ajo rodeo so far in Moto2™ at the Red Bull Grand Prix of The Americas as Raul Fernandez and teammate Remy Gardner sit 0.4s clear of the competition after FP3. Fernandez’ 2:09.258 is the time to beat, with Championship leader Gardner 0.061s down on his title rival, as third place Fabio Di Giannantonio (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) sits 0.4s away on the pace set by the Ajo riders.

A league of their own

It was a fairly quiet Moto2™ Saturday morning session before the timing screens burst into life in the final 10 minutes. Sam Lowes (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team), Ai Ogura (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) and Di Giannantonio all took turns in leading the session at one point, but that was before Gardner and Raul Fernandez came out swinging.

In the end, Fernandez got the better of his teammate by less than a tenth, with the Red Bull KTM Ajo riders operating on a different level so far. Rookie Ogura claimed P4 ahead of qualifying, with Augusto Fernandez getting the better of Elf Marc VDS Racing teammate Lowes in the closing stages – P5 and P6 for the Spaniard and Briton respectively.

Heading straight into Q2 on home soil is Cameron Beaubier (American Racing) in P7, the American sits ahead of Marco Bezzecchi (SKY Racing Team VR46), Aron Canet – who crashed unhurt at Turn 6 – and his Inde Aspar teammate Albert Arenas in the top 10. Jorge Navarro (MB Conveyors Speed Up), Simone Corsi (MV Agusta Forward Racing), Jake Dixon and Petronas Sprinta Racing teammate Xavi Vierge are the final automatic Q2 qualifiers.

Can anyone stop it from being a straight pole position fight between the Red Bull KTM Ajo duo? Find out at 15:10 local time (GMT-5).
