Ramirez: "It felt really amazing! It was incredible"

Following his debut win at the Catalan GP, Leopard Racing’s Marcos Ramirez is now confident he can challenge at the front week in, week out

Sunday at the Catalan Grand Prix was quite the day as the packed grandstands got to witness three home winners in the form of Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team), Alex Marquez (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) and for the first time in his career, Marcos Ramirez (Leopard Racing).

The 21-year-old took full advantage of a chaotic final lap in Barcelona, where at Turn 10 Honda Team Asia’s Kaito Toba crashed out of the lead and Sterilgarda Max Racing Team’s Aron Canet and Estrella Galicia 0,0’s Alonso Lopez both ran wide, allowing Ramirez to pounce and take a debut GP win.

He continues Leopard Racing's tremendous run of success at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, where they have won four of the past five Moto3™ Grands Prix courtesy of Danny Kent, in 2015, followed by Joan Mir, Enea Bastianini and now Ramirez over the past three years.

“I felt really amazing,” said Ramirez, during a visit to the motogp.com offices. “This victory is incredible. We will see what happens at the next races, I hope it’ll go like last weekend, but we’ll see. This victory gives me more confidence and I hope every race I can fight at the top now. I hope that anyway, but let’s see what happens up the end of the season.”

After a run of three races without scoring a single point, this victory on home soil was a much-needed change of momentum. The big question now is, can he continue this new-found momentum by building on it with another victory at the Motul TT Assen in less than ten days’ time.
