Marquez tops Moto2™ FP1 in Malaysia

Spaniard heads Pasini and Bagnaia on Friday morning in the intermediate class

Alex Marquez (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) went quickest on his final lap of FP1 at the Shell Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix, setting a 2:08.351 to oust Mattia Pasini (Italtrans Racing Team) from the top spot by 0.214, with Championship leader Francesco Bagnaia (SKY Racing Team VR46) completing the top three on a weekend where he can claim the title.

It was a tentative start to proceedings with the track still partially damp, but the intermediate class were soon able to head out on slick tyres to start setting representative lap times around the Sepang International Circuit. By the end of the session, Luca Marini (SKY Racing Team VR46) was fourth fastest, 0.315 off Marquez’ best, with Iker Lecuona (Swiss Innovative Investors) fifth – 0.373 back. Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Ajo) – the only man who can stop Bagnaia winning the Championship – ended FP1 in P11.

The intermediate class will be back out for FP2 at 14:05 local time (GMT +8).
