Home hero Sasaki heads Bezzecchi in Warm Up

Japanese rider tops the times on Sunday morning ahead of the Italian and Dalla Porta

Home hero Ayumu Sasaki (Petronas Sprinta Racing) got his Sunday morning preparations off to the perfect start at the Motul Grand Prix of Japan, topping Moto3™ Warm Up by 0.014 seconds over Marco Bezzecchi (Redox PruestelGP) after setting the quickest time of 1:57.617.

Lorenzo Dalla Porta (Leopard Racing) completed the top three in the 20-minute Warm Up session, with Championship leader Jorge Martin (Del Conca Gresini Moto3) the only other rider to set a lap time under the 1:58 bracket – P4 for the Spaniard, the same as his grid position for the race.

It wasn’t the start to the day that pole man Gabriel Rodrigo (RBA BOE Skull Rider) would have been looking for though. The Argentine rider crashed twice – rider ok, with fifth on the grid Darryn Binder (Red Bull KTM Ajo) also having a nightmare morning. The South African launches from a career-best P5 but didn’t manage to set a lap time due to an issue with his bike.

Moto3™ go racing at 11:00 local time (GMT +9).
