FIM "Say no! to doping" campaign launched in Doha

New campaign to educate and raise awareness kicks off at the first race of the year

The 2018 FIM “SAY NO! TO DOPING” campaign  was launched at the first Grand Prix of the season on Thursday, with Losail International Circuit in Doha, Qatar, hosting the season opener. FIM Medical Director Dr David McManus and FIM Anti-Doping Coordinator Evelyne Magnin provided a series of briefings to the riders in Moto3™, Moto2™ and MotoGP™ ahead of their first track action.

The briefings highlighted the rationale for the FIM Anti-Doping campaign, in particular the dangers of doping - emphasizing the potential adverse effects on the health of the riders, illustrated by some examples of prohibited substances.

“The FIM and Dorna have been working very closely these past seasons on this subject," says Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO Dorna Sports. "It’s something that’s very important to both of us and especially to the FIM as the sporting organiser of the World Championship and the disciplinary authority. As the sport has developed, the physical aspect is now one of the most important for all classes and we feel that it’s important to give riders a good education about anti-doping both on the track and off.”

The FIM Anti-Doping coordinator, Evelyne Magnin, demonstrated a range of supporting material and concluded by thanking the riders who have contributed to the campaign including Aron Canet, Joan Mir and Dani Pedrosa. “You deserve a clean sport by protecting your health and for the integrity of you all," adds Magnin. "The FIM will propose some workshops and educational activities during the season in all disciplines.”

The FIM Medical Director, Dr David McManus, added: “This briefing is a very welcome opportunity to interact with the riders and emphasize the health implications of doping and the benefits of the FIM Anti-Doping campaign, particularly at the beginning of the season. We were encouraged and impressed by the participation of the riders and their commitments to the campaign and the promotion of a clean sport. We would like to extend a special thanks Dorna for supporting the FIM 'Say no! to doping campaign'."
