Moto2™: Warm Up and Sunday Guide

Morbidelli and Marquez lead the way once more in Warm Up, followed by some facts before we go racing

After Hafizh Syahrin (Petronas Raceline Malaysia) reigned in the full rain, Moto2™ Warm Up began to dry out and saw Franco Morbidelli (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) take to the top, just after the Italian was announced as moving to MotoGP™ with the same team next season. Teammate Alex Marquez was second quickest, with Syahrin then ending Warm Up in P3.

Sunday Guide:

- Franco Morbidelli starts from pole for the fourth time this year. After winning the first three races of the year, Morbidelli has had one podium in last four races.

- In second place on the grid is Takaaki Nakagami (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia), which is his first front row start since he was third fastest qualifier in Aragon last year.

- Tom Lüthi (CarXpert Interwetten) is on the front row for the third time in 2017. He will be aiming for his first podium finish at Assen since he was third there in the first year of the Moto2™ class in 2010.

- Heading the second row is Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Ajo), who won the Moto3™ race at Assen two years ago.

- In fifth place on the grid is Fabio Quartararo (Pons HP 40) – his best qualifying result since moving up to the Moto2 class. His last podium appearance was in the Moto3 race at Assen two years ago when he finished seventh.

- Xavier Simeon (Tasca Racing Scuderia Moto2) starts from the final place on the second row, which is his best qualifying result since he was second on the grid in Germany two years ago, when he also took the only win of his GP career so far.

- Mattia Pasini (Italtrans Racing Team) qualified in seventh place on the grid after suffering two crashes in the qualifying session. Pasini last finished on the podium at Assen ten years ago, when he won the 125cc race.

- In eighth place on the grid is Alex Marquez (EG 0,0 Marc VDS), who won the Moto3™ race at Assen in 2014 on his way to taking the world title.
